1. Cover letter for Sao Paulo Conference
Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce that the Journal of Analytical Psychology, in collaboration with our colleagues from Sociedade Brasileira de Psicologia Analitica (SBrPA), Associaçao Junguiana do Brasil (AJB) and la Comisión Latino Americana de Psicologia Analítica (CLAPA), will be hosting a conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from July 30th – August 2nd, 2020.
The title of the conference, ‘Civilization in Transition: Clinical, Social, and Academic Perspectives’ is meant to provide a broad framework to address the challenges we are currently faced with in this time of social upheaval and change.
This event will mark the first time a Journal conference is held in Latin America. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for fruitful exchange with colleagues from different parts of the world and different cultures in order to get new perspectives on clinical issues of concern and debate in the field of analytical psychology. To further foster the exchange, some of the papers will be published in a forthcoming edition of the Journal.
In attachment to this email/letter, you will find the Call for Papers for the conference. We strongly encourage you to submit a paper and hope to have the pleasure of meeting you in person at the conference in Sao Paulo.
With very best wishes,
The members of the committee:

Call for Papers
The Journal of Analytical Psychology, as the leading International Jungian Journal, has specialised in presenting both clinical papers and theoretical research and discussion since its inception in 1955. In our first conference in South America we would like to offer as broad, imaginative and topical focus of inspiration for contributions as possible.
Around the globe we are witnessing turbulent political and social changes that raise questions and concerns about the underlying psychological and social forces. We have therefore chosen the title of Volume 10 of Jung’s Collected Works, ‘Civilization in Transition’, as the theme of our conference as it captures something of the feeling of the times in which we find ourselves.
‘Civilization in Transition’ contains essays written between 1918 and 1958 and collects together some of Jung’s various responses to the period of massive social upheaval and destruction that he lived through.
The topics addressed by Jung in Volume 10 seem as pertinent today as they did in Jung’s time, perhaps with an even greater sense of urgency. His papers in that volume include essays on the unconscious, the undiscovered Self, the shadow, the state of ‘psychotherapy today’, the spiritual problem of modern man, conscience, good and evil, archaic man, Eastern religions, flying saucers, and one called ‘After the Catastrophe’, amongst others.
In this spirit, we hope that Jung’s range of responses will inspire you to submit proposals offering your own contemporary reflections and responses to the feeling of our ‘transitional’ times.
We invite contributors to submit proposals of no more than 500 words to journal.jap@thesap.org.uk before September 15th, 2019, for this timely and exciting conference. We look forward to you joining us in São Paulo in 2020!
